Reeds Spring Art Tour

A Photo Essay

The Message Tree Staff

In the August 2003 issue of The Message Tree, we told you of the Holiday Art Tour, sponsored by The Reeds Spring Area Artists Group, to be held November 1, 2003. Obviously the first of November has come and gone, but for those of you that were not able to attend this wonderful tour, we have prepared for your pleasure the followng photo essay.

Eight of the most prominent artists of the central Ozarks, opened their shops and working studios, showcasing their best works at special prices just for this event.

Our first stop was at Allen's Backyard Stained glass, where we...................

.......found Paul Lear of Paul's Printing at Reeds Spring checking out the remarkable collection of art and gifts that Dianne and Carl showcase in their studio/gallery...............

As with all of the artists in the Reeds Spring area, Allens Back Yard Stained Glass displays a eclectic collection of art in various medias......

Our next stop was at the New Coast Gallery of fine art, that features works by area artists. This unique shop is open by appointment only and is well worth taking the time to schedule a visit so that you can view the collection privately, also New Coast sponsors house concerts, so please call for more information, 417-272-8386...............

The featured artist that new Coast had arranged to be in attendance at the open house and show was Gloria Warnock of Sweetwood Pottery who has been working in bas relief sculpture, wheel thrown, and hand built clay vessels and tiles, since 1974.............

Then like rats following the pied piper, we couldn't help ourselves to venture off of the tour, just a bit, and follow the wonderful and tranquil melody that was drifting on the air, where we discovered "Sprit Walker" aka Wil Templeton who has been making and playing Native American Flutes for over nine years, performing locally as a professional for the last five. Not only is his music beautiful but his handcrafted flutes are themselves works of art......................

Our next stop was at Omega Pottery, the home of Mark Oehler. If you will refer back to our article in August, you will find that Mark has a wonderful philosophy.

With the completion of the highway 13 bypass around "Reed" the shopper now can explore this wonderful landmark without the hassle of traffic and there is ample parking in front of the various stores. The most remarkable attribute of this community is the friendliness of its people and merchants, where you can browse in an unhurried atmosphere.

If you haven't already done so, check out our August issue (click here) and read about the other artists in the Reeds Spring area. Then take time to visit historic Reeds Spring, a city that is known as the art "center" of the Ozarks.
